Hungry for Righteousness

Mat 5:6
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Wow! What a promise we have here! Christ himself tells us that if we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we will be satisfied (or "filled" as the KJV puts it). When I read this verse, I cant help but ask myself, "Am I hungry and thirsty for righteousness?"

Well, what is righteousness? I believe the righteousness that Christ is talking about here is His righteousness. Webster defines righteous as, "acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin". One may ask, "How can we ourselves be righteous?" Well, that is like asking, "How can one be free from guilt or sin?" The answer? We can't! No matter how hard we try, we cannot get rid of sin and guilt ourselves. We have to pay a payment of which we cannot afford. Of course, if you are a Christian, you know what the death of Christ accomplished and how He made that payment.

With that in mind (and keeping in mind that Christ is the one speaking), I think it is safe if we read this verse, "Blessed are those who hunger and thrist after Me, for they shall be satisfied." You see, with Christ, we find righteousness that we cannot get anywhere else. Praise God for His love, mercy, grace and for the payment of His Son's blood!

Now, back to my original question. Am I (and those who read), hungry and thirsty for righeousness? Well, I believe that personally, I am. Who, with the grace of God, wouldnt want to be free from sin and guilt! I long to see people in our community to have the same desires! I want to be apart of God's plan of redeeming people. I want Him to use me to bring people to Himself! May it be our prayer that in the coming months we will see people come to know Him in our midst.

As I said before, Christ Himself promised that those who seek after Him shall be satisfied. Praise God! Let's live our days satisfied in Christ alone!
